So a few nights ago someone was driving around slowly then getting out and trying to open car doors. The Facebook group for the neighborhood has all sorts of pictures and video but all of it was missing something. It was the license plate from the car.
I bought a used LPR from work that has been deployed several times in the past catching people stealing building materials. The camera looks rough and needs to be cleaned up.
In the past someone spray painted the lens and the white stuff was from when the boss used paint remover. Problem is that is the lens for the IR.
After some research I can just wet sand it with 1000 and 2000 grit sandpaper and use Trippoli polish (same stuff to polish aluminum) and it should be good to go. While I am at it I’ll clean up everything and maybe a new coat of paint.
Another issue I have is the M-Series NVR I had died. The power supply gave out and killed the PoE section of the system. So now I have a 8 channel NVR from a kit. The NVR has no LPR analytics so I have to get creative. Toss in a 128GB SD card into the camera and have it on the home network so it can upload the pictures it takes to a FTP that is also on my network and for Video I can just add it to the NVR. This way I can rely on the analytics from the camera itself.
This morning I ran a CAT6 for the camera and it’s gonna to be mounted to the Garage soffit. Since the camera has some weight I added a 2×4 inside the soffit so the camera has a good mounting surface.
On the Rack in the garage I used a cheap Steamemo brand PoE switch. Only does 10/100 but that’s what the camera works with.
