Designing the new Garage and shop

We haven’t moved yet but I am designing the layout of the new Garage shop.

The Garage is completely unfinished. It has no paint on the walls. There is a single light and there are only three electrical outlets.

The plan is to paint the walls white. since there is attic space I can easily add lighting. I am gonna add a ceiling fan for sure. I got some commercial grade LED can lights I can add for more lighting. Electrical outlets I’ll tackle later on. I plan to surface mount six outlets, three on each side wall.

Now the house has no functional low voltage. Has a conduit going from the master closet to the outside Demarc and all of the rest of the cabling is RG6 going to the rooms to the outside Demarc. So I have to retro in everything for networking. Since the Demarc is on the Garage side I can send two CAT6 cables through the conduit to outside. From there I can bring one into the garage and send the other up the wall outside in conduit to the second floor attic. Having schedule 80 conduit on the side of the house doesn’t bother me.

The CAT6 coming into the Garage is probably where the rack is going. Luckily there is an electrical outlet there. I’ll probably pull in the RG6 and there are two phone lines as well I can turn into ethernet. If I have to I can get some MoCA adapters for the RG6 and have ethernet for the first floor.

As for the small shop the master bedroom has his and hers walk-in closets and I hardly use any closet space so my mini shop will be the closet. This will have my electronics workbench and 3D printers. I’ll have to add electrical outlets to the inside of the closet but luck would have it I got an outlet on the other side of the wall to splice into.
