So I made some trades and got a 8 channel Hikvision M series NVR. Just like with all of my stuff I want to make sure it has the latest firmware. Well To my amazement the new 5.0 NVR firmware was available for it.
I flashed it and it’s completely different but at the same time the same. The GUI is completely different and most of the settings I attend to change are all over the place. However it is much easier to change settings on the camera side. The firmware is more in tune with the cameras and can push more settings to the camera so there is no need to pull out a computer and connect to the NVR. You can change most of the settings with a monitor connected to the NVR console.
However I ran into an issue. I have the older DS-HD1 Doorbell and I can’t get it to connect to the NVR. By default the NVR has all of the channels set to Plug-N-Play so after finding that setting to turn off a channel to add a camera from the LAN I ran into an issue with a certificate error. When I tried ONVIF I get “Device Offline”.
However the ColorVu cameras I have do have a new firmware as well and as I am writing this I am flashing a camera to the new firmware. When I tried to do a virtual tunnel to the camera the NVR said the old firmware on the camera is not compatible so I hope this update fixes it.
The new firmware for the camera gives you the same layout as the NVR.
What I am excited about is the engineers finally listened and added a web plugin for Linux. The plugin is in a DEB package for Debian based distros but if you run Alien to convert the DEB package to an RPM package you can use the plugin on Redhat and OpenSUSE distros. It’s kinda buggy but I think it’s because I’m using the plugin on OpenSUSE instead of the proper distro it was made for.
I’ll talk more about it when I figure more out about how this all works.
