New computer setup in the works for the new house

I attend to bring home computers that are kinda old and I fix them up and toss a few upgrades in. After that they typically end up collecting dust.

So to lighten the load so to speak I’ve taken all of them apart and planning to turn one of my Dell R410 servers into my main PC.

Luck would have it I found a couple of Xeon X5570 CPUs for 10 bucks. I also plan to buy four SATA SSD drives and configure it as a RAID and I think I can also slap in four spinners for a additional RAID. Not completely sure. There are four unpopulated SATA ports but I have no idea if their tied into the SAS array. The other issue I have is the R410 is in a U1 case and the GPU I want to use takes up two card slots and there is only one free slot.

To fix this I plan to gut the system and wall mount it. Put on a couple of big CPU coolers and live with the annoying FAN missing issue. I found a few articles on converting a ATX power supply to power the system as well.

Instead of keeping the system in the Garage I will have it in the mini shop that has A/C. To get it working in the Garage I plan to use a USB-over-IP adapter and a HDMI-over-IP adapter. In the mini shop I can use a 1-2 HDMI splitter.

This will be a future project. When we move I have to convert a office and bonus room into bedrooms then retro in all of the low voltage like Ethernet, Cameras and Alarm system.
