Electrical Issues – Darn Government Apparently

So they sent a master electrician to look at it. As soon as he saw the panel he knew the problem. The panel is a Siemens PN3048B1200 200 amp 30 spaces 48 circuit. He blames the panel and the government mandate for AFCI breakers.

Also he noticed that two breakers were changed out to standard 15amp breakers and he asked if I did that. Since I have a warranty on the house I have not touched the breaker panel except to reset a tripped breaker. I also admitted that I have changed out some light switches with smart switches and installed a ceiling fan in the garage.

As he was tightening down everything he saw a double tapped neutral that is a total no no. Here is a example below what a double tap is.

Also apparently the last guy really cranked down on the main service line and warped the bus a little bit.

The shitty part is it sounds like the electrical contractor is washing their hands on this panel. From what I have been told they have had problems with this panel in many new homes and they no longer use it and switched to Square-D. He bluntly told me after the warranty to either swap out the AFCI breakers to standard breakers or swap out the whole panel.

So I’m going to seek out the warranty paperwork and see if I can have this repaired under warranty. After all at my job we have had to eat the cost on replacing equipment.
