WTF Windows S Mode?!?

My Daughter bought herself a Laptop with her first paycheck from her summer job. Sadly I wasn’t there to help her pick it out.

She bought one of those HP Stream budget laptops. Dunno why HP still thinks you can get away with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

The Laptop came with “Windows 11 Home S”. Well come to find out S stands for “Security” but in my book stands for “shit”. It locks you down and can only install programs from the Microsoft Store. There are plenty of guides on disabling S mode but just about all of them except for one didn’t work.

When you go into Settings/System/Activation and select turn off S Mode the Microsoft store opens and you click on it’s little script to disable S Mode but it kept having errors. I tried disabling Secure Boot and that didn’t work. I tried updating all of the “apps”, nope. I installed all of the update to Windows, nope. What got it working going into Settings/System/Recovery/Fix problems using windows update then select Reinstall now.

Took forever for that part since the machine only has 4GB of RAM and Windows 11 takes most of it.

My daughter is thinking to return it and get a decent laptop.
