A friend of mine decided to downsize his computer setup. He gave me a old Dell PowerEdge R220 and a enclosed 18U half rack.
The R220 has an old Xeon E3-1220 V3, 16GB of DDR3 and two 500GB hard drives in a RAID configuration. Naturally I tossed on Debian and having it as the home server. The old R410 I had was too loud and sucked up tons of power even at idle. This system uses half the power.
I have the R220 running as a Cups server, Crafty Minecraft server and a AdGuardHome. I’m planning to add a WireShark server to it as well. I am also debating to max out the ram to 32GB. I could also upgrade the CPU but the documentation is kinda vague when it comes to the Xeon CPU.
As for the enclosed rack this will be the new home for the 3D printers. I currently have the printers on a 18U open half rack and with the huge printer on top it shakes the whole thing around when it’s printing.
